How to manage the end of daylight savings and your little one's sleep

The end of Summer and start of Autumn means that daylight savings is coming to an end in just a couple of weeks, so let me walk you through the best ways to transition your little one's sleep to the new time.

Daylight savings is coming to an end which means it's time to put your clock back an hour. This can be incredibly daunting for some people, because we gain a whole extra hour overnight.

This doesn't mean that your 6am wake up needs to become 5am, or that bedtime now needs to be 6pm! We can gradually shift your little ones day to gently move them to the new time.

There are 3 things that set our body clocks, they are light, social interaction and food. So by shifting all of these elements we can change our body clocks.

You can choose to do this proactively; that is the week leading up to daylight savings or reactively, which is the week after daylight savings ends.

All you need to do is move your little ones whole day 15 minutes later every second day, this includes all naps and meals too!

See the proactive table below.

But what if you have woken up on the Sunday morning and the clock has already turned back? Don't worry Mumma, I've got you covered, see the reactive table below.

The change in time doesn't have to be scary, even if you completely forget that daylight savings is coming!
